Viva Farms to host month-long beer, cider and bounty celebration: Skagit Farm to Pint ROADSHOW

Skagit Farm to Pint RoadshowViva Farms is hosting the 4th Annual Skagit Farm to Pint ROADSHOW, presented by the Port of Skagit, this April. Farming is at the heart of what makes Skagit Valley such a precious place, but that legacy is at risk. In the next 20 years, 70% of all Washington State farmers are expected to retire. Meanwhile, the Puget Sound region has lost 60% of its farmland since 1950. If this trend continues, the last acre of farmland in the region could be bulldozed or paved over by 2053. Viva Farms is aiming to raise $60,000 through Skagit Farm to Pint ROADSHOW to support their work to preserve sustainable farming for future generations.

“Skagit Valley is a special place. Surrounded by natural beauty and rooted in a deep agricultural heritage, Skagit is home to some of the best beer, locally-grown ingredients, and skilled brewers and makers around. We think that’s something worth celebrating!” said Michael Frazier, Viva Farms Executive Director.

Skagit Farm to Pint Roadshow 2022

The ROADSHOW is a month-long local beer, cider and bounty celebration held at breweries around Skagit Valley featuring craft beers brewed with Skagit Valley Malt and delicious bites highlighting local and handcrafted ingredients. Join other local beer, cider and food enthusiasts, as you enjoy exclusive beer and bite pairings on a self-guided brewery adventure. Participants can also join in the fun of a homebrewer’s competition; cornhole and trivia tournaments; or become a VIP to create a truly magic Skagit experience.

We will also have a live stream concert from the Lincoln Theatre on April 3rd to support our local musicians and kick-off the FEST’s start by awarding lots of great prizes!  The first band to announce is The Enthusiasts! CRAFT BEER COMMUNITY

In the end, we want to show our local breweries the love and support they deserve. We are hoping to rally our craft beer community around them. We wish things looked a little bit different this year, but we’re so grateful to be a part of a supporting and caring community during these trying times.

Skagit Farm to Pint Run for Beer Kicks Off Skagit Beer Week!

The 2019 Skagit Beer Week kicks off with the Skagit Farm to Pint Run for Beer organized by the The Brewery Running Series!  The run will be held at the Port of Skagit.  Registration includes a pint glass and a ticket to fill that pint after the race!

The Brewery Running Series was started in Washington by Tonio Tello in 2016, with it’s first full year of events in 2017, the Brewery Running Series events are 5k-ish, fun-run courses that all start and end at local Washington breweries, primarily in the Seattle area at this time. We welcome all runners, walkers, joggers, and spectators that are interested in enjoying the great sights/streetscape around Seattle, WA and the great craft beer that our breweries have to offer. All of our participants complete a 5k course nearby each brewery. Afterwards, everyone hangs out, drinks beer, and enjoys local live music!

Be active, have fun, give back! In addition to pairing some exercise and good beer, a portion of all proceeds go back to local non-profits!

The Brewery Running Series started in Minneapolis in 2012 by Nate Herrington and Morgan Jappe. They wanted to combine their favorite things – being active, drinking beer, and supporting their community. Turns out, a few thousand other locals share those same interests across the Country! A few years and tens of thousands of beers and miles later, they decided to branch out.

Skagit Farm to Pint FEST Supports Viva Farms!

The Viva Farms Incubator started in 2009. The Port of Skagit leases 33 acres to Viva Farms that are subleased to new farmers to launch and grow their businesses. Viva minimizes prohibitive start-up costs by providing access to shared resources: education, training, equipment, technical assistance, capital, land, and markets. Ongoing agricultural and entrepreneurial support from Viva Farms’ staff, local agricultural support groups and peers increases the likelihood of early-stage success.

Core areas of support include organic production practices, marketing, sales, distribution, record keeping and liability management. Farmers also complete courses in WSU’s Cultivating Success. Each 12 week course is offered annual Sustainable Small Farming and Ranching in the fall, and Agricultural Entrepreneurship and Farm Business Planning in the spring.

The farm incubator is not an end point for farmers. It is a starting point to transition them to farm ownership and secure long-term tenure. Once farmers establish stable agricultural enterprises at the incubator, Viva Farms will help them relocate to new land and continue growing their operations.
