Big Win for Chuckanut Brewery at World Beer Cup

Chuckanut Brewery is excited to announce they have won two Gold Medals at the World Beer Cup 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee. Both Bohemian Style Pilsner and German Style Kolsch beer have won the highest medals for their rendition of these traditional European style beers. This year’s World Beer Cup had more than 8,000 beers from more than 2,600 breweries worldwide, including 850 breweries from outside the US. And 72% of the judges were from outside the US.

Chuckanut’s Pilsner is not new to awards as it has won both Silver and Bronze at past Great American Beer Festivals (GABF) as well as awards at the WA Beer awards and the North American Beer Awards. In the past Chuckanut Pilsner was entered as German style but has morphed into the Bohemian style with a greater use of Czech hops, most notably Saaz. Chuckanut Pilsner is a traditional European style Pilsner with a noble hop aroma, bright golden color, and white pillowy head. Chuckanut’s Pilsner is known as mouthwatering, award winning, deeply satisfying and refreshing brew!

Chuckanut’s Kolsch has a light body with a soft malt flavor giving way to a crisp finish. This award winning ale has undergone cold conditioning resulting in a slightly fruity aroma, effervescent quality, and quenches your thirst all year round! Chuckanut’s Kolsch has won three Gold Medals and one Silver from the GABF. It also won Silver in 2012 at the World Beer Cup, plus numerous medals from WA Beer Awards and North American Beer Awards in the past.

Chuckanut Taps Maibock and Mexican Style Lager

Chuckanut Brewery’s North Nut in Bellingham and South Nut in Skagit County will be tapping its Maibock and the famous Mexican Style Lager in May. The Maibock has been cold aging for more than two months, creating a slightly sweet, full-bodied palate packed with rich, bready and toffee like aromas. Maibock is full of malt flavors and delivers an alcohol strength of 7%, but remains smooth to drink. The Mexican Style Lager has a balanced light body and crisp finish and is aged up to six weeks.

Chuckanut Brewery’s Maibock recipe was inspired by the blonde German style of spring Bock. Traditionally, every cold season would bring a new variety of Bock, with each beer carrying a different color and strength to vary in rhythm with the season. By May (Mai in German), it was still too cold for outdoor activities in Germany, but since the days were becoming longer and lighter, the beer followed suit. Chuckanut’s Maibock is a golden color but still full in body with lots of malt. The Maibock pairs nicely with roasted pork, potatoes, and even desserts such as crème brulee!

Chuckanut Mexican Style Lager is the color of sunshine with a slightly bready malt flavor and thirst-quenching finish. Made with a percentage NW grown and malted barley, straight from Skagit Valley, we hope this low-alcohol Mexican type lager brings vision of sunshine & warmth, just in time for spring!

Chuckanut Brewery Tapping Rick’s Lager

The brewers at Chuckanut Brewery have started a Namesake Beers series that includes beers uniquely designed by each of the individual talented brewers on the Chuckanut team. First up is Marine Veteran Rick Burns and his Rick’s Lager. Both Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen in Bellingham and Chuckanut’s South Nut Tap Room in Skagit will be tapping Rick’s Lager on Friday, March 30th. With Rick’s micro-biology and brewing experience he has chosen to make an orange style lager that has a good deal of hoppy orange flavors.

Rick’s beer has a clean, bready, biscuity malt finish typical of Chuckanut beers paired with lots of pithy orange bitterness from the hops making it a well-balanced lager. Great with Mexican or Thai food, the orange flavors from the hops in Rick’s Lager meld well with this type of spicy, tropical food.  Rick’s Lager is also a taste treat all by itself. We hope you enjoy this tasty lager from brewer Rick before it runs out. You will find it at other accounts around the North Puget Sound and a few accounts in the Seattle area so if you see it, try it, it won’t last long. Stay tuned for further brews in the Chuckanut Namesake Series introduced throughout the year.

March Beers from Chuckanut Brewery

March is known for many kinds of beers and Chuckanut will be releasing a lot of them and more soon. Marzen Lager is known as the March beer in Germany and Chuckanut’s Marzen is an award winner. St Paddy’s is the Irish celebration featuring Irish Stout, a favorite cold weather ale. And this March Chuckanut will release the first in their Brewers Namesake Series with our Marine Veteran Rick’s Lager, an orange colored lager with hoppy citrus pithy notes and a toasty finish. Another March beer is a collaboration with the new Twin Sisters Brewing in Bellingham. Before they have their brewery up and going we collaborated on an English style bitter called Nutty Sisters with them.

Marzen (March in German) got the name because these amber lagers were traditionally brewed in March then lagered in ice caves and brought out for the fall harvest. The balance between bready, malty, juicy sweetness and firm bitterness makes traditional Marzen a most tantalizing beer. Irish Stout is a dry style of stout most commonly brewed by Guiness Brewery in Ireland. Chuckanut’s Irish Stout is clean and brisk with lots of roasted grain and coffee notes. It’s also very sessionable compared to other stouts like the Export style. The Namesake Series (each Chuckanut brewer will design and brew a beer from their own recipe) Rick’s Lager is a hoppy, orange colored lager with lots of orange bitter notes from the hops Rick used in his recipe. Bready and toasty with a strong hop presence this is a great drinking beer for the spring. And our collaboration with Twin Sister’s Brewing is a mild bitter dubbed Nutty Sisters. With an amber color, a backbone of hop bitterness and aroma, this traditional English style ale is easy drinking with a modest strength that allows for multiple pint consumption!

There’s lots of interesting Chuckanut beers to choose from this March. Make sure to stop by and expand your beer drinking horizons, if not at one of Chuckanut Brewery pubs then one of the many accounts in Puget Sound that offer Chuckanut Beers.
